Greetings from Malaysia and a warm welcome to the International Sports Medicine and Exercise Science Conference (ISMESC) 2021 organised by the Malaysian Association of Sports Medicine (MASM). This event is collaborated with the Sports Medicine Unit, Faculty of Medicine, and Centre of Sport and Exercise Sciences, University Malaya (UM); Faculty of Sports Science and Recreation, Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM); and Faculty of Education, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) to bring a prestigious conference with the theme of "Improving Health and Performance Through Sports and Exercise". This is a timely conference as this past one and half year has been a great challenge for all communities and countries due to the Covid-19 pandemic. It has greatly affected the general health of most people around the world in varying magnitudes from the lack of opportunities to maintain health through sports as a result of enforced lockdown and quarantine measures.

Additionally, the pandemic has massively disrupted educational opportunities and professional development for trainees and professionals alike. Organizing an international conference under the current difficult environment where social distancing is a new norm with highly restricted travel and quarantine processes is a major challenge. As a result, the traditional way conferences are organized is no longer possible for safety and logistic reasons. This international conference will be presented online over two days, where exciting Sports Medicine and Exercise Science topics will be presented by eminent experts in their field locally from Malaysia and internationally from FIFA and other countries. There will be interactive sessions moderated online with the participants to achieve maximum theoretical and practical learning opportunities. The topics covered include Medicine and Sports Science in Football as Malaysians are generally very passionate about football.

Last but not least, the organizing committee would like to sincerely thanks and acknowledge the industry sponsors in this challenging financial climate for their unwavering support, without which this conference would not be possible.

The organizing committee has worked hard despite the very difficult and challenging environment from the pandemic to put together an exciting high-quality conference that appeals to both the Sports Medicine and Exercise Science fraternity. As is often said, "there is no modern medicine without science". Therefore, we hope this program would add value to all participants in terms of their knowledge base and ongoing professional development, and continue to support the growth and development of Sports Medicine and Exercise Science in Malaysia.
